Pre and Post Treatment Care for DNT (Direct Needle Therapy)

Preparing for Skin Needling

  • Our skin care professionals will recommend an Ultraceuticals skin care regime to be followed for at least 2 weeks prior to your needling procedure. This will assist to soften, repair and prepare your skin prior to treatment. This regime will include a product from our Vitamin A range possibly a Vitamin C product, an Even Skintone or Ultra Brightening Serum product and Ultra Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+. This will ultimately make your procedure more effective as a healthy skin always responds better to treatment.
  • Undergoing a Microdermabrasion prior to your skin needling procedure may be recommended and a light peel following treatment to augment your results. This is an advanced treatment and will only be performed if recommended by your practitioner.
  • Needling must not be performed until 2 weeks after Botox or Dermal Fillers.
  • If you are taking a blood thinning medication such as nurophen/aspirin that increases your propensity to bruise, it is advised to suspend this medication temporarily just prior to your treatment if agreed with your treating physician.
  • If you are prone to cold sores please ensure you commence taking your anti-viral medication at least 1 day prior to your treatment.
  • You will be asked to arrive 30-60 minutes prior to your procedure so that a numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area.
  • If you are using Retinoic Acid (prescription topical Vitamin A) on the skin, please cease use for 48 hours prior to treatment.
  • If you have ever had a permanent filler you will not be suitable for this treatment.

What to expect after your treatment:

  • The treated area will look red and slightly puffy for a day or two with an appearance as though the skin has been sunburnt or wind burnt. Occasionally minor scratches will occur. These may last for a few days and can be covered with makeup (12 hours after the treatment). The deeper we penetrate, the more red and longer lasting the scratches will be. Skin needling stimulates your body to manufacture more of its own natural collagen and this process will continue for several weeks to months and even up to two years in some cases. Responses will vary. Some clients see a discernible difference within a few weeks whilst others take longer.
  • Occasionally if there has been several passes performed over an area, pustules and light scratching may form as a result. Generally this response will heal within 24 to 48 hours.
  • It is important to avoid facial waxing, electrolysis, IPL or any laser procedure and the use of hair removal creams for 2 weeks after your treatment.
  • Please follow the Ultraceuticals post needling homecare as prescribed and ensure that the skin is kept moist with Ultra Hydrating Lotion, Ultra Moisturiser or Ultra Rich Moisturiser cream for 48 hours following treatment.
  • The Ultra Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30+ may be used following treatment.
  • Do not use Makeup including Mineral Makeup for 12 hours following the Skin Needling Treatment.

Do not pick or peel the skin if it starts to flake.

  • Resume your Ultraceuticals active skincare products only after the area has healed completely. This could be from 24 hours to 5 days.

Additional Visits

  • Your initial course of treatments is usually scheduled at 4 – 6 weekly intervals. Some clients find that maintenance treatments (following the recommended course of treatments) are required at 3 to 6 monthly intervals; this will be discussed with your practitioner at the completion of your treatment. Results are very dependent on diet, general health, how well your skin is taken care of at home and how well it is protected from the sun.

Scar Relaxation aftercare

  • Scar relaxation treatments can be quite deep. Healing may take 1-4 days during which it is recommended that the area is covered with a loose protective dressing such as clean gauze during the day. If the breast area is treated DO NOT wear tight bras or binding clothing as these may delay healing. Uncover the treated area whilst sleeping. Panadol may be taken as necessary to relieve temporary discomfort. Do not use make up on unhealed skin as this can create a dark tattooing effect.

For all Procedures

  • Ultra Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30+ must be used to avoid hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not use Sheer Tint
